Quilts, lanterns & broken bones

When I started quilting, I thought I will be making quilts for family & friends.

Didn't think anyone would buy, let alone place an order.

And then, I sold 2 quilts & am working on a custom order for a single bed quilt! Can you see me hopping around still ?!!

These are the 2 quilts sold.
- Calming Pinks & Greens.
Very soft & luxurious fabrics with fleece batting. It's for a mother, at the end of a long day.
- Playing with Animals in Blue.
Cotton fabrics with toys motifs (western & asian designs). 2 very lovely new parents bought this for their equally adorable baby.

With a wonderful Bernina, you can make wonderful personalised labels too! Now I understand why quilters have more than 1 project at a time. I have so many ideas running around in my head & I want to sew so many quilts - all at the same time!

The latest project in the making is "Red Lanterns". I am making it with my mother in mind.
She found me during the Lantern Festival, one mid-autumn. She loves red & she loves lanterns in the wind. It will be the first time, I am sewing just for her.

And we had an excitement recently. My 12 year old Niklas fell out of a tree & broke 2 bones in his right arm. He climbed to get his ball & fell 2 metres (over 6 feet) to the ground.

When you are suddenly one-armed, almost everything is more tricky. His little sister, Annika helps him patiently with everyday normal things.

I help him, with lots of scoldings in between the concern & care. I still scold, when I think of the worst that could have happened.

Annika said his arm (before the cast) looks like Harry Potter's arm when it became boneless & was all floppy. She also said that if we dotted Niklas' hand, the broken arm will look like a swan's head.

Love both your quilt as well as the lantern quilt you are working on. The centre of that baby quilt is so adorable. And yes, I think your daughter is right, that arm really does look like a swan's neck. You have a very observant child.

I enjoy looking at your quilts, they are beautiful. Would love to try making one, but the weather here really doesn't require us to have one.

Your poor boy hand really look like a swan head with dots for the eyes...:P Hope he recovers soon.

Your quilts are beautiful, especially the pink and green one. I agree with your Annika: Niklas' arm certainly has a Harry Potter look. I hope it heals well and straight.

Hi Xue, I am so sorry to hear about Niklas' arm. I hope that it heals properly and soon. I know that he wont be climbing any trees soon. It is so nice of Annika to help her big brother.
Your quilts are wonderful. Hope your sales go well.

gorgeous projects. And I hope your son gets better soon!

I had the joy of attending a lantern festival in Taipei and one somewhere in Taiwan (where they send the lanterns in the air like hot air balloons)... it was magical. I think Imight need to do some lanterns myself. :)

Your quilts are beautiful, no wonder people wish to buy them. The latern one is especially lovely. I love the fabrics you've used in them. Yes, this is why I have so many projects going at once. Too many ideas, too little time. A broken arm, we've had many here between my children over the years. Hope he heals soon!

Congratulations on your commission pieces. They are beautiful. I too have more ideas in my head than I can ever make - and they keep expanding every time I visit another blog. I hope your son's arm heals quickly and doesn't cause too much pain.

Hi Xue, your quilts are beautiful and as always I love the small touches you add to them...the quilting on your green flower material and the coloured thread quilting on the other quilt. Your name tag looka great too. It looks like you are REALLY enjoying your new sewing machine!! Hoping Niklas is well on the road to recover.

But poor Niklas--do hope he will make a good recovery from his broken arm. Many years ago I had a broken arm from a car accident...not fun...LOL! Happy Sewing & Happy Days ((HUGS))

Poor Niklas. Oh what a worry for you. Glad that it was only his arm and it will heal. Poor boy what a fright. Get well soon Niklas.

Lovely quilts. Yes Bernina is a wonderful company. Your hand stitching round the bird is so pretty.

Your quilts have such an original and wonderful flair! I really really love them! Each is so unique and beautiful. I adore the colors on the pink and green. The animal one is so much fun with the delightful animal prints. I also adore how you ahve quilted the center of it. And I will be so happy to see the lantern quilt as you progress onit. The reds are really striking! Happy quilting on your many projects!!!

Your poor boy! My son broke his arm a few years ago jumping off a swing. He screamed a lot right away but we didn't take him to the doctor until the next day, we just didn't know it was broken! Wishing him a quick recovery!

You are doing so well with quilting. I never had the patience for it, but I did make some of the girls clothes.
So sorry to hear about Niklas breaking his arm..Like you said, it is frightening when you think what could have happened..I remember my brother doing the same thing..fell right out of the tree in our backyard. He had a cast for six weeks..
Have a good week and I hope Niklas is mending very fast..
