XUE means “snow” in Mandarin. It is also my name. Here you can see snow every day.

A collection of art, craft, jewelry, patchwork, sewing, quilting, all inspired by daily exposure to Western & Asian cultures since ours is a mixed Chinese & European family. Read about our life amidst craft in this latest land we are living in, after 20 years of moving around the world. I write about making pretty things we love & about my crafty kids - whom we love. And my husband too, since he designed my website! He started it & my Etsy shop because getting started & all this technical stuff drove me nuts!

Countdown, twice !

We are counting down frantically over here.

We count down in between panics, not only to Christmas but to our big move across the oceans.
This year, we will spend Christmas in another country, where it will never snow (sob!).
This year, we couldn't put up as many festive decor as we normally do.
Except for our homemade Advent Calendar,
everything else stays in the attic, waiting for the movers to come.
Our Advent Calendar has different sized pockets & removable wooden pegs.
In our home, we filled up some of the pockets, Santa filled up the rest.
Sometimes, the pegs moves around to fit the goodies accordingly.

My husband is German so we celebrate German festivals too.
So on 6th December, Saint Nikolaus (protector of children & a very good friend of Santa),
will come by to fill up the children's shoes, which will be left outside the night before.
Happy Advent !

Your advent calendar is full of lovely details. The fabrics are great, and the little embellishments add such charm. - I made a pocket advent calendar for my kids when they were little.

Lovely idea for an Advent calender. And I'm sure that you stitched that yourself!

Having moved trans ocean a few times myself, I understand the sadness and excitement. Blessings to you as you await the move and then get settled in your new country!

So nice! I have never seen anything like this! Well, we were making ( I did not ) a kitty cat one and her skirt was where all the little numbers were. This one is so lovely!

You haven't told us where you are going????!!

How lovely you also celebrate Sinterklaas all the way in Japan! I hope the kids will leave a carrot in the shoe for his horse and sing a special song! This event is very popular in Holland.
Good luck with your move!

After years of carving little tree decorations, your idea for an advent calendar is very appealing ... pockets for someone else to fill.
Hope your move goes smoothly.

Beautiful Advent calendar. I'm sure the kids are not too old for that ;). Yes, we also celebrate Saint Nikolaus on the 6th (tomorrow). Funny enough, in Switzerland he "comes" from the Black Forest with his donkey and his helper. Where does yours "come" from?

What a beautiful Advent calendar! I lived in Germany for a while - I remember Saint Nikolaus coming. I don't think that he'd want to leave anything in my son's awful shoes, mind - they're already falling apart. I'm not sure what he does to be so hard-wearing on shoes...
